iv) Review of contraindications, side effects and warnings.
Some cases require additional attention. For those cases, if requested, InMedEx can provide the additional following information:
i) Review of any Therapeutic Interventions that may have already been performed on behalf of the patient and recommendations for next steps;
ii) Recommendation for improvements in therapy; and,
iii) Note any indication suggesting case management is advisable for the particular patient under review.
Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)
An FCE is a type of independent medical exam that aims to provide complete and objective assessment of an employee's current level of physical functioning but does not involve a complete history review. Many times the functional capacity exam is tailored to assess a specific diagnosis or physical impairment. As the name implies, the FCE's goal is to aid in understanding the worker's ability to perform key required functions of a particular job assignment. Many insurers, business and claims professionals combine the results of the FCE with that of a Independent Medical Exam (IME) to provide a more complete and objective evidence profile.
Fitness-for-Duty Assessments
A fitness-for-duty assessment is used to help claims and HR administrators conclude if an employee is able to safely return to the workplace without causing harm to others or themselves. Generally at this stage an employee is not yet under any of the work place's disability programs but their actions while acting for the company have created cause for concern. The employee is typically placed on temporary leave until a fitness-for-duty examination can be performed. This exam aids those involved to determine the employees ability to return to work and any appropriate next steps. InMedEx will assist in the selection of one of the qualified physicians from our panel to conduct the employee exam and deliver, answer objectively on all concerns and deliver a medically sound opinion enabling the move toward an appropriate conclusion.
Return-to-Work Assessments
In the case where an insurer or business already has an employee on a Short Term Disability program and the claimant has been out of work beyond a normal scope of the diagnosis, InMedEx offers a Return-to-Work Assessment. In these cases, an independent medical opinion is relied on to determine whether the current return to work date is appropriate, necessary and accurate. This type of exam can also assist in determining a return to work schedule that includes restrictions for a period of time until regular strength and/or motion is regained. InMedEx works with a client for selecting one of the qualified physicians from our panel to examine the employee and deliver an objective opinion enabling the move toward an appropriate action.
